Chartless Medical Records Come To Las Vegas - KVBC News3, Las Vegas

The medical malpractice crisis has doctor's offices looking for ways to cut costs. At the same time, patients are demanding more privacy and better care. A Las Vegas man says his product offers both. Healthline 3's Beth Fisher reports he is the creator and president of Virtual Charting.
Check in at All American Surgical, and you notice something different. Gone are the days of paper. "What you've done is become HIPPA compliant in the lobby. No one sees who signed in, no one knows who you are."
Ted Campos is the founder of Virtual Charting, a company that allows offices to store, access, and add to medical records electronically. "Memory is cheap. Instead of looking for a larger office space for more charts, we were able to put this on our mainframe and accessibility to charts was a big selling point."
Dr. William Maranon prefers patients to paperwork. It's one of the reasons his patient's charts are now computerized. "We don't have charts lying around the office where patients can walk by and see other information. You carry this around like a note pad."
The note pad is easy to use. The same forms the office used to have on paper are now in there, and there is plenty of room for the doctor to write important notes. Bottom line? Every visit, every test, every remark is forever stored in your virtual chart.
"The real patient benefit is that it's virtually impossible to misfile something." More accuracy, more privacy, more room in the office. Virtual Charting may sound like science fiction, but it's science fact in Las Vegas. Virtual Charting requires a key, a log in, and a password to get access. If someone stole the entire system, they still wouldn't be able to access your medical records without all three of those things.
There are other electronic medical records companies out there. Dr. Maranon thought Virtual Charting was easier to use
